Watching Bradshaw on right now with Mike and Mike. He was just describing what it was like to prepare for his first Super Bowl – Super Bowl IX – against the Minnesota Vikings. My ears pricked up when he said that “no one” gave the Steelers a chance against the “mighty Minnesota Vikings.” I was nine years old then, but already paying attention and that was not my memory at all about the run-up to the game. My memory is that everyone knew how great the Steelers’ defense was, the Vikings had already lost two Super Bowls and that the way the game played out – I was rooting for the Vikings – was drearily predictable, with Minnesota essentially unable to do anything.
Anyway, it looks as if Vegas had installed the Steelers as a three point favorite for that game. So, clearly someone thought they had a chance.
